It’s tradition in the Cascerceri family to designate a weekend in January as Father Daughter Weekend. To celebrate the unofficial holiday, Big Frank and his daughters fly down to Naples, Florida to enjoy a few days of sun, relaxation, and quality time together. This year Big Frank made the executive decision to book the 6 A.M. flight, so the weekend was off to a rocky start. For example, Dorothy was more focused on having her sleeping mask - instead of her boarding pass - in hand as we boarded the plane.

We quickly got over our lack of sleep, and spent the weekend enjoying time by the pool - the same pool we laid by as we brainstormed our T-shirt ideas two years ago! - and visiting some of our favorite spots in Naples. Every year we look forward to the Florida sun, but even more, quality time with Big Frank.

“big D” and “little D”

On December 26, 2009 (almost two years ago), Danielle and I spent the day lounging on the leather couches in our family’s home recovering from a delicious Christmas meal the day before, followed by a wild night out with our younger sister, Julia. As the snow and sleet fell outside the window, we cuddled up under blankets and step-by-step went through our plan to launch a T-shirt line.

Big Frank (our dad) - an entrepreneur himself — sat in on some of our discussions and lent us his best business advice. We had no idea how long it would take to launch the business, but we committed that day to doing everything in our power to make our dream a reality.

And here we are — two weeks from Christmas — and what we talked about, dreamed about, visualized and worked so hard for has FINALLY ARRIVED.

We spent all day Wednesday at our warehouse organizing, inspecting, counting and admiring our inventory.

Ok, there wasn’t much time for admiring — but once we returned to New York City, we admired. Our backs and legs were sore from all the work we did, we were exhausted from being up at 6am with another 6am wake-up the following morning for meetings, but there was such a feeling of accomplishment and pure pride that washed over both of us. Despite the fact that we got caught in a torrential downpour on our walk to dinner, both of our umbrellas broke and we arrived at our destination soaked and cold, we DID IT.
